Well the summer holidays have arrived but someone forgot to tell the weather. It has rained for weeks and weeks and the one thing that goats hate...yes rain.
The first hint of bad weather and all the goats disappear into their cosy field shelters and occasionally peak outside to see if there are any offers of hay or nibbles.
New arrivals to Hensell Goat Rescue Care Farm are the very naughty Boer goat twins Houdini Harry & Larry, very aptly named by their former owners as they are the naughtiest goats we have ever encountered. If they can get their head in a gap...thats it! they have escaped. If they cant get under, through or round to where they want to be, they develop moster springs in their feet and bounce over a 4 foot plus fence as if it isn't there. They then take it in turns to try and get stuck in some fencing and scream for blue murder if someone doesn't rush to their immediate attention to untangle them. Graham is on constant fence replacement at the moment to replace all the normal stock fencing with small mesh wire to prevent them hurting themselves, but this then gives them footage to climb the fence as they use the small holes like ladder steps - They are extremely handsome but jeez are they a handful. roll on the day when they grow too large to get themselves into too much mischief.
Over the past few weeks during June, July and through into August we are holding fund raising open days and the response has been overwhelming and busy on each day that we have been open. We would open on more days but we are short of regular volunteers who can commit to help on these days or are experienced at animal handling but still hoping we can get more people involved.
As the open days have grown in popularity we thought it might be nice for visitors to see a goat kid and at 6 days old Boo along with her mummy Betty joined us at the farm and everyone just loves a cuddle with baby Boo.
New in at the farm are our very own mugs. These have now been added to the SHOP page and can be posted out via Evri tracked courier. £12.00 if collected from the farm or £14.99 posted
Bye for now, more news as the summer holidays progress and we hopefully get some sunshine soon!
